  4. Amanda,

Its refreshing to read your welcome page, I have been interested in Anthropology for a while now with out realizing it and know what I want to study but not sure yet how to connect and narrow down all of my interests, or how to gel it all together. Is this something that you found IDS helped with or did you already know what career path you wanted? - April Dilio

  5. Hi April!
I did actually find that the IDS degree did help me there. I loved anthropology, but I also loved languages, and on top of that I loved religious studies. obviously this made choosing a degree difficult! When I did choose the IDS program, i talked with the adviser (Pete, he is awesome!) and he kind of gave me a heads up on what the degree meant, it is a real life degree!

Anthropolgy isn't one thing, it is research, writing, studying, science, math, language, religion, culture, etc. how is all that cohesively taught in one general degree? I have no idea, but for me I found that I was learning about ANT in my religion classes as well as my language classes. It was amazing! I honestly don't think I would have gotten the same education had I chosen the Anthopology degree alone.

I know that was a kind of round about way of saying, Yes I think that the IDS degree helps you zone in on what you want. And no I did not really have a set career in mind until this past semester. Chosen with help from the advisers.

Tip #1 Go see the advisers every semester and make sure you have all the prereqs you need and are enrolled in the correct classes. It helped me breeze through!
